Invader is a French street artist known for his distinctive mosaic tile installations, inspired by 8-bit video game graphics, particularly the arcade game Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s, Invader has "invaded" cities worldwide with his pixelated, colourful mosaics, transforming urban spaces with nostalgic imagery from classic video games like Pac-Man and Mario.
Invader uses small square tiles to create pixelated images, blending early video game aesthetics with modern street art. His work, often hidden in plain sight on city walls and corners, brings a playful, tech-inspired twist to public spaces. Invader also explores Rubikcubism, using Rubik's Cubes to create pixelated portraits, adding a new layer of interactivity to his art.
Invader’s "invasions" span over 70 cities, making him a global figure in street art. By merging the digital past with the urban present, his work resonates with both art lovers and the general public. His art is playful, accessible, and bridges the gap between pop culture and contemporary urban life, leaving a lasting mark on street art.
With over 3,000 pieces installed globally, Invader's mosaics have gained recognition in both public spaces and major museums like MOCA in Los Angeles. His work continues to redefine street art, inviting people to see and interact with their surroundings in new, imaginative ways.
